Change the Ruling Blood

MARCH 16, 2O22

Improvement comes with changes. It is something sought by many, and it is something that is not easy to achieve. Political dynasties in the Philippines are common. Three generations of one family seated on the same position for consecutive elections, or the grandfather being the president, and the son being the mayor and other family members elected on other minor positions is not new and is not controversial anymore. However, does it mean that it is good for the country? Or does it even give changes when the current politician's bloodline remains seated on the throne of politics?

The 2022 Election is coming and heated debate and controversies are everywhere, especially when talking about who should run for president. Current President Rodrigo Duterte has a long line of politician families. One of the most known is his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Sara Duterte is pushed by the DDS to run for president to follow in the footsteps of her father. If she were to run for president, she would only continue the dynasty of Dutertes in the position of President.

The infamous 'War on Drugs' of President Duterte brought different opinions from the people. Some disagreed with its unjust killings and some agreed with the change it gave. However, if Sara Duterte would run for president, would she still continue the advocacy of her father to stop drugs? Sara has been expressive by her will to stop drugs just like her father and if she were to become the president, the advocacy of the current president for 6 years, will continue for another 6 years, seeing no change for more than a decade.

It is like running in circles with no end of the path, undergoing the same thing for a long time. People need to have changed in order to see improvements. Filipinos need to feel the improvement in order for it to be called a change. Drugs are not the only problem in our country. There is poverty, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, and HIV. But if Filipinos would focus on striking down the problem of drugs, can they achieve real change? A real change does not only change one part of the whole but change the whole issue and include everyone affected.
