The talk of the town for campus scribes is finally here as Zamboanga del Norte National High School (ZNNHS) debuts an online publication competition as one of the new categories in the much-anticipated Journalism & Media Arts Expo on April 21, 2022, 8:00-12:00 pm via Google meet.

The online publication category was first introduced to selected ZNNHS journalists during the 2021 Division Schools Press Conference.

Pioneer representatives of ZNNHS in the said category and now members of Helios Entertainment, scribes Emmanuel A. Jaboneta, Heather Simonette M. Intong, Jebelle B. Mirafuentes, and Quitalyn U. Marcojos have become devoted to online publication due to the challenge it provides and the news skills it instills in their minds as young journalists.

Bearing the name Helios Archives, the team met face-to-face as they yearn to seize the title and secure spots in the DSPC at the Department of Information and Communications Technology Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Office to engage in an environment where time-pressured tasks and communication are observed, with the exception of Intong, who was at home during the competition.

“It was actually amazing as this is my very first time yet joining the school-based presscon and media arts expo here in ZNNHS. We have yet to commence face-to-face classes in our school. That is why I was reluctant and shocked knowing this event is about to come back again. I have my fingers pretzel-crossed for this .” Intong said in an exclusive interview via Google meet.

Furthermore, the online publication contest began with a brief interactive lecture followed by the presentation of the mechanics and articles required for each team's website, all manned by Al L. Cantery, speaker for the said category who also handled the sports writing competition.

A team of at least 4-5 students in different grade levels from ZNNHS competed in the group category, with each team required to submit articles of news, feature, column, sports, and editorial and colored editorial cartoons, using website builders like Wix and WordPress in order to develop a website of their own.

The deadline for submission is set to May 13, 2022, and all qualified websites will be viewed and analyzed by a panel of judges to determine the winners.

The winners and runners-up in the online publication category, as well as other group and individual categories, will be acknowledged and awarded at the ZN Convention and Sports Center while wearing their most formal attire during the Journalism and Media Arts awarding ceremony on May 20.

Speaker Al Cantery requests participants to fill their website with positive articles.
